George and Gertrude Wilder lived and worked in China from 1894 to 1943, when they were sent back to the US aboard the prisoner-exchange ship Gripsholm.  Their letters and other writings, and Gertrude Wilder's paintings, are being posted here to be shared by their descendents and others interested in this period of Chinese history.
